We are often terrified, just like the Israelites on the bank of the Red Sea. We look at the giant obstacles in front of us and the enemy pursuing us from behind, and instead of trusting the Defender, we start holding on. But there is infinitely more for us on the other side of the threshold; we just have to be brave, trust the Defender, step into the water, and move forward into the impossible life of the promise.

In Exodus, there was not a single household in Egypt where someone or something was not dead. Your sins will be paid for. There are only two legal options on the table of eternity: either you will personally pay for your rebellion by dying eternally, or you will trust that Jesus, the Lamb of God, paid it completely in your place. Have you called upon His name in total surrender, asking Him to apply His blood to the doorposts of your heart?

Where are you struggling, or failing, and how might God be trying to glorify Himself through this? Will you let Him? Can you trust Him? Will you trust what God is doing in your life right now even when you can’t understand it?

Exodus chapter 3 speaks directly to anyone who has ever felt insecure about a new role, terrified of an assignment you’ve been handed, or crushed by the feeling that you don’t have what it takes. Here’s the points: Freedom from insecurity doesn’t come from discovering that you are enough, but from realizing that God is.
