It’s easy to think about parables as “earthly stories with a heavenly meaning”. That Jesus was just using simple, every-day analogies to help people understand profound truth. That’s true to an extent, but this parable in Matthew 13 shows us that there was more to it than that. In fact, in a real twist, Jesus tells us that he sometimes told parables to obscure truth rather than illustrate it.
