Understanding and Moving Beyond Anxiety

It is exciting to be a member of a “Purpose Driven Church” where our values are clear, and our leaders are committed to the health of our congregation. For it is only through our spiritual growth and health that we are able to joyfully fulfill our God-ordained purposes as individuals and a church. Yet within our beloved church family, from our “littles” to our “ancient of days”, we are witnessing the debilitating effects of anxiety. The stress and suffering caused by anxiety destroys relationships and God-given potential.
Anxiety is one of the most common mental and spiritual health issues we face in the Christian community. It’s also among the most misunderstood. With the complexity of contributing factors such as genetics, brain chemistry, personality, and life experiences, it’s overwhelming and confusing. Feelings of shame, fear, or denial often keep us from seeking help. Furthermore, there’s a billion dollar industry devoted to the promise of making us less anxious (but not healed) with weighted blankets, pills, oils, and fidget toys. They may work for a while, but only keep us stuck and coming back for more.
Praise be to God that He is greater than anything we face in this fallen world, and that He will use His word, the power of the Holy Spirit inside us, and the wisdom of others to lead us into hope and restoration. We are believing and anticipating a work of God for the healing of our children, our parents, and ourselves in the area of anxiety. No family is immune from anxiety’s prevalence, and no family is alone facing it.
If you or someone you love is dealing with anxiety, we encourage you to join us for a workshop led by professional counselor, teacher, and researcher Dr. David Manock. He has provided godly, transforming change in the lives and marriages of SCF families. This workshop will offer education and inspirational help as to how to transform our minds, and see anxiety differently. A variety of resources and support will be provided to help move us forward into living hopeful, effective, joyful lives for Christ.
“Do not be anxious about anything” (Philippians 4:6 NIV)
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” ~ 2 Timothy 1:7
